The Royal Christening Re-Cap from One Small Child

Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was christened yesterday, July 5th, 2015. The small ceremony took place at the church at St. Mary Magdalene in Sandringham, Norfolk. The same church that princess Diana was christened at.

The royal family arrived in style, with Princess Charlotte being pushed in a pram by her mother. The Duchess wore a beautiful cream dress coat and matching hat. Onlookers were delighted that the little prince sported a red short outfit that was very similar to the one his father wore when he first met his baby brother, Prince Harry.

Following tradition, the little princess was baptized in the same christening gown used in 2013 by her older brother, in the lily baptismal font, and in water from the River Jordan. The archbishop of Canterbury performed the ceremony, which was attended only by very close family. A small reception was held afterward, followed by tea at the Queen’s nearby residence and official photographs. At tea, guests were served cake that, following tradition, was a tier from the duke and duchess’ wedding cake.

The Duke and Duchess decided to break tradition when naming Charlotte’s Godparents. They didn’t choose anyone from the royal family, but three close friends and a cousin from each side. To learn more about them, and the ceremony, we found this article from bbc.com to be the most informative.

The Royal Christening Gown is a four-piece set… Along with the gown, you’ll receive a matching bonnet, cotton slip and preservation bag. The matching bonnet has two tiers of lavish lace and shimmery silk ribbon ties. The slip is made from combed cotton broadcloth material. It’s both comfortable and durable. A thick ruffle with generous gathering provides subtle volume to the bottom of the gown. This helps preserve the gown’s shape throughout the skirt.
